Heart Of the Matter

Heart of the matter is a New York Times Best-selling book, written by a Best-selling author Emily Giffin. This book portrays the themes of love and honesty. This book address women more than men. The idea and the conflicts are something more women would prefer to read about then guys.

This romantic novel tells us the lives of three people. Valerie Anderson, Tessa Russo, and Nick Russo. Valerie is a single mother of a boy named Charlie. With the help of her brother Jason, they raise her son together. Jason is a homosexual and has a boyfriend named Hank who is a tennis instructor. Tessa Russo is the wife of pediatric surgeon Nick Russo. Together they have one daughter and one son named Ruby and Frank. Seven years ago, Tessa was going to marry one of her boyfriends named Ryan. The wedding was in three weeks, when one day she went on the subway and met the man of her dreams. I’d call it love at first sight because Tessa didn’t even know Nick’s name and they both knew that they were right for each other. Tessa broke off the wedding and married Nick.
Charlie had an invitation to go to one of his friend’s birthday party. Valerie is always afraid something bad will happen so she usually doesn’t allow Charlie to go. The parents of his friend were nagging Valerie too much that she decided to let him go. At the party, Charlie accidentally fell into the bonfire and burned half of his body. Nick Russo was the best pediatric surgeon so he was assigned the case. After some time Valerie and Nick bonded and began to form a relationship. Valerie knew Nick was married but she couldn’t help it. Nick felt he wasn’t doing anything wrong because he wasn’t sleeping with her. After sometime, he slept with her once and regretted because he realized he still loves Tessa. He ended his relationship as nice as possible but still everyone was upset. He had to tell Tessa the truth and she forced him out of the house. Charlie was very heartbroken about the whole situation because he liked Nick a lot. He considered him his father almost. Now, he can’t see him and probably never will.

I didn’t enjoy this book as I enjoyed all the other ones. I thought that this book was longer than it needed to be. It felt like the author kept on dragging the story longer than it needed to be. The idea and the conflict were good. I wish though that thee story could have a happy ending rather than an unexplained one. At the end we are left to make conclusions. I feel very bad for Charlie, because he has no father and lost the closest thing to a father. I also feel bad for Valerie, she has struggled all through her life ever since she was in high school. She was the quiet and shy girl while her brother, Jason, was one the most popular kid in the school.

Overall, the book was okay. If you like romantic love stories than you will enjoy Heart of the Matter. Enjoy!!

Complications :Science/ Health book

Complication is a book written by Atul Gawande. Gawande is a New York Times Best Selling author. He grew up in Athens, Ohio and my parents know him and his parents very well. The novel Complications talks about real life cases that doctors deal with. Some cases may be about his family, others may be about his patients he encounters everyday and some are just about other physicians.
Each chapter is separated into different cases dealing with different situation.  I thought it was interesting when he talked about a doctor from Akron, Ohio. In order to try and protect peoples identities, Gawande uses Dr. X or Mr. Y to describe the person. This doctor(Dr. X) from Akron was one of the top surgeons and was greatly praised. He had done many successful operations, but towards the end of his career, he began doing unsuccessful operations. For example, if someone was suffering from severe abdominal pain, the doctor would just nothing is wrong and stop crying like a baby. This continued for almost ten years until one day, when one of his colleagues reported him in. Therefore, he lost his license and job.
Annually, doctors hold a convention in different cities. At these conventions, doctors present cases of mistakes other doctors made.  Gawande saw a doctor in a separate room giving a presentation about how doctor’s behaviors can be analyzed to suggest whether or not they are liable to proceed with their careers. Gawande observed the presentation and recommend that Dr. X go to this hospital. Dr. X was diagnosed with bipolar depression. He was unauthorized to work ,but after sometime of treatment he was allowed to do very minor jobs.
Another case that I found interesting was about his children.  Gawande brings up an interesting question about how when you bring in an infant to the ER, everyone just assumes that the child has been abused. For example, Gawande’s child Hati was only a year old she was on the sofa when she fell off and her bone snapped. They rushed to the ER and the doctors and nurse just keep on asking how all this happened. Soon, the doctors believed  Gawande and let him off because of his career status. I would consider this a type of discrimination against families near the poverty line. Walker, the eldest son, has had heart problem ever since he was born. Gawande talks about how at one point, he could have operated on his son, but he wanted another doctor to operate and treat Walker. Gawande thought if anything went wrong then he didn’t want to be liable and live with the burden of his son’s death.
This book is a non-fiction book. This book is a bit out of my comfort zone so I would get distracted easily. Some parts I found interesting while others were boring. Overall, the book had good information and topics about the science. Some parts also describe cutting open a person for an autopsy or surgery. These parts can gruesome and bloody but what would you expect from a book written by a surgeon. Overall, if you need to read a scientific book that is non-fiction, I would recommend this book if you want a direct view of a medical career.

Flawless book review

Recently, I finished the book Flawless by Sara Shepard. Flawless is part of the Pretty Little Liars series. It is a best-selling series as well. This book is suspenseful as well as mysterious. Flawless is the continuation of the first book called Pretty Little Liars. Therefore, this book is the second boom of this series. A major theme of this book is honesty because the main characters have to be honest together in order to solve the mystery hence the title.
The main characters of this young adult book are Aria Montgomery, Spencer Hastings, Emily Fields, and Hanna Marin. The girls are all in high school and live in Rosewood, Pennsylvania. The series is about finding out who “A” is because “A” send these girls mysterious messages and ruins their lives. “A” also is the killer of their best friend Allison DiLaurentis.  She was popular but yet mean and cruel to have as a friend. Lots of people hated her which made it harder for the girls to find out who “A” was. All the girls have secrets with Allison that the others don’t know about.  Emily is a shy and the nicest among all her friends but she is afraid to admit to everyone that she is gay. Hanna used to be the fat and chubby girl but she transformed into a skinny and beautiful girl. Though Hanna still has a lot of problems unresolved like her mother and father’s divorce. Aria is considered a little weird and different because of the way she dresses. She is also more independent. She is struggling to keep her father, Byron’s, affair a secret from her mother because she doesn’t want to ruin and separate her family. Spencer is a rich girl who has to live up to the standards of her perfect sister Melissa.  She may be perfect from the outside but inside she is boiling with lies. For example, Spencer in the past has taken all of her sisters boyfriends away from her by kissing them. She has also forced herself to take credit for a history assignment her sister wrote when she was in high school. Throughout the book a secret about each character is revealed. A year before Allison went missing, she set fireworks off in Toby’s garage. The fireworks made Jenna, Toby’s step-sister, go blind. Toby knew Allison had set the fireworks off but he confessed that he set the fireworks off thus he was sent to a reformatory school in Maine. Spencer heard Toby tell Allison she will pay for her actions. Therefore,  girls suspect Toby as being “A” but you have to read the book in order to find out who “A” is.
I never thought a young adult book would be this intense or serious. Every page is full of suspense, and a little romance in between. I heard that the series was very interesting so I decided to read it because it is buy a best -selling author. My favorite character is Aria because she is more independent which I can relate to. The novel can get confusing because each chapter is always flashing back and forth from one girl to another.
Overall I liked the book and recommend it to anyone in for some suspense! Enjoy!

Book Review For Scott Pilgrim Gets It Together

Couple of days ago I finished a book called Scott Pilgrim Gets it Together by Bryan Lee O’Malley.  This graphic novel is the fourth volume of this comical series. If you are under twelve years old, I recommend not reading this book, because your parent may get upset with the language and actions in the book. I would have to say the themes of the story are sense of self and good and evil.
The series is about Scott trying to fight his girlfriend’s evil ex-boyfriend’s. The story is about a boy Scott Pilgrim who moved from Canada to California. He is about 23 years old. The beginning of the book starts off with Scott and his girlfriend Ramona at Julie’s (Scott friend’s Stephen Stills girlfriend) birthday party. They played volleyball until it got dark. They formed a campfire Stephen played a few songs, and then all the friends meet at Julie’s aunt house. They just talk drink and get drunk. The next day Kim Pine (Scott‘s ex-girlfriend in high school, but best friend now) is moving to a new apartment and Scott is helping move her stuff. Scott goes to the mall to cool down because the air conditioning doesn’t work in his apartment. While sitting on the bench, he meets his old classmate Lisa Miller. Lisa and Scott hang out and reconnect with each other. The group of friends (Scott, Kim, Julie, Stephen, Ramona, Knives, a teenager who is obsessed with Scott, and others) usually meet up at Sneaky Dee’s. Sneaky Dee’s is like a diner. Scott introduces Lisa to Ramona, but Ramona gets a little jealous of Lisa. Throughout the book a ninja looking man with a sword tries to kill Scott. Scott also encounters another one of Ramona’s “ex-boyfriend”. When you find out who the ninja guy and the “ex-boyfriend” are, you will be shocked.
http://www.nexternal.com/dreamland/images/1sp42.jpgWhen I first saw this book, I thought it was going to take me forever to read it but I was able to finish in about 2 hours. I’m not the fastest reader, but this was an easy and quick book to read. I thought the book was going to be childish because it is like a comic book, but I was wrong. There are a lot of contents for teenagers and older adults. Some materials are immature but they are very enjoyable. Throughout the book, I wasn’t very bored because there was a lot of graphic and amusing dialogue.
Overall, this book is a great relaxing and stress reliever book for teenagers and young adults. As I mentioned, I chose the theme good and evil because Scott Pilgrim who is good has to fight his girlfriend’s evil ex-boyfriends in order for them to keep on dating. I also chose the theme, sense of self because Scott figures out what he wants and he can do anything he sets his mind through in the book.
I liked the book, because it was easy and relaxing.  It was a good book to read after a long week of tests and quizzes. I hope you will have time to read this book and enjoy it!

Book Review For 61 hours By Lee Child

http://images.contentreserve.com/ImageType-100/1191-1/%7BEEB7F78B-C0F4-47B5-AEE3-014B4580F629%7DImg100.jpgRecently, I read the book 61 Hours by Lee Child part of the Lee Child’s series. I must say that this book has a mysterious thriller to it. At first the book, is slow but the plot slowly rises page by page. This fictional mysterious thriller keeps you guessing throughout the whole novel.  If I had to choose a theme for the story, then I would suggest the theme of courage and suspense.
The book starts out with a Jack Reacher, who is the main character hitches a ride on a tour bus with senior citizens. Shortly, the bus gets into a car accident near a small town in South Dakota called Bolton. The events of the novel are all in Bolton, South Dakota. Reacher used to fight in the army and graduated from West Point. Stranded in the cold, Reacher teams up with the Andrew Petersen ,Police Department  of Bolton, to solve the mystery of an unknown dead man. Bolton is not just a small town but it holds one of the largest prisons. Chris Holland is the chief of the department and the guy who introduced Reacher to Petersen. Not only do they have to solve the mystery of the murdered man , they have to protect the prime witness ,Janet Salter, an old fragile lady. The novel/ story introduced the criminal Plato, who lives in Mexico. He is the mastermind behind all the murders and crimes. The question we don’t know is who is murdering everyone under Plato’s control in Bolton.  As you read you story you will be amazed at what happens next!
When I read this book, I thought the book was going to be boring because nothing was going on.  Soon,  everything started to change and the novel started to become exciting. The most suspenseful part of the novel has to be three fourths of the way through the book. I wish I could tell you what happened but it would be useless to read the book. From the novel, I would have to say Janet Salter is my favorite character. The novel describes her as a sweet, fragile and peaceful old lady always being nice and generous to everyone. Anytime someone came to the her house, she would make the guest feel at home.
This novel is confusing at times but very interesting.  The part I hated about the book was when the author would make flashbacks on what Plato was doing and what was going on in Bolton. The ending explains why Plato was an important part in this mysterious thriller. Throughout the story, I think the author was trying to explain how Plato impacted the investigation going on in Bolton.
Overall, I liked this book a lot. I am willing to read it all over again. One thing I forgot to mention, Reacher asks help from the 110th special unit. He meets a girl named Susan over the phone, who he build a mild romantic relationship with over the phone. The ending may also scary you a bit. If you read this book you are in for a surprise.

5) KaRdAshIaN KonFidEnTiaL : Overall

I have finished the book now. I can say without being ashamed that I appreciate the Kardashians a lot more now than before. In a way i look up to them. Still not sure why,  everyone doesn't like them.  If everyone just stopped judging them and actually gots to know them, I bet you would like them. The Kardashians like any ordinary family love Christmas. Every Christmas it is tradition that everyone wears the same Pjs and open Christmas presents together and plays games. If you had to read an advice book, I recommend Kardashian Konfidential especially if you are a girl. The book gives you advice on how  to bulk up outfits and simplify it. Other advices in the book mentioned are about boys, school, family, and just some personal stuff the sisters wanted to share with us like a Steel- cut oatmeal recipe that Kourtney makes or old family pictures. I REALLY recommend that you don't dis the Kardashian's.

All Pictures were Founded on Google!!

4)KarDaSahian KonFidenTial: Kim

                                             Kim
I have read until page 192. Kim Kardashian is a big workaholic. I say this because she overbooks herself a lot and never says no. One time with she had to be on Good morning America and she was flying out but the plane got cancelled because of the big snow storm in New york. This didn't stop her, she called the closet airport and booked the next ticket out of the city. She flew from Las Vegas to Atlana to Boston. In Boston, she rented a car and drove to New York. If I was in the same situation, I don't think I would have gone through that much trouble just to keep my promise especially if there is a big blizzard outside. Since Kim was young, she was ashamed of her curves and her body because it was much bigger than her sister Kourtney.Soon she realized to accept her bodying and have curves and a bigger body wasn't that bad. Kim and Kourtney were always very close but when Kourtney went to college they drifted apart. Later, each sister became closer to Khole. Out of all the Kardashians , Kim is the most emotional because she cry's over anything. She also falls in love with anybody. She is also the most recognized sister out of all of them for her modeling career.
